    Endowment Program

By establishing an endowment fund at the Black United Fund of Oregon people are able to better serve minority and low-income communities; participate in our professionally managed investment program; utilize the Black United Fund1s resources and expertise in providing background information and screening for grants and scholarship awards to organizations, students, or other interest areas.

The Black United Fund administers five types of endowment funds that enable donors to establish a fund that best meets their charitable giving objectives: Discretionary, Field of Interest, Advised, Designated and Scholarship.

    ACCESS Scholarships

ACCESS - Achieving College Competency and Educational Success for Students
The purpose of the ACCESS program is to guide youth toward responsible citizenship by ensuring educational success and access to higher education.

The Black United Fund of Oregon established its scholarship fund in 1994. This fund awards scholarships to "at risk" students who are selected based on their academic standing, financial need, school participation, community service activity, oral and written performance.

The ACCESS program enables individuals and organizations to establish a named scholarship fund or to contribute an unrestricted gift to the ACCESS Fund. Gifts of any size can be made to the general scholarship fund, but in general gift of $5000 or more is required to establish a named scholarship fund.

The following named funds have been established:

The Ron Herndon Scholarship: five $1,500 scholarships awarded each year
The Willamette University Partnership Scholarship: two $15,000 scholarships awarded each year
Portland State University Scholarship: five $1,500 scholarships awarded each year
