This year the Black United Fund of Oregon will hold its 10th Annual Community Unity Banquet and silent auction on February 22, 2007 at the Governor Hotel located at 614 SW 11th and Alder.

The Community Unity Banquet, established in 1994, brings together over 300 individuals from Portland’s diverse communities in recognition of an Oregonian whose life exemplifies the theme of the event – Justice, Unity, and Freedom. This year we are recognizing nonprofit organizations that celebrate arts and culture in our community.  Proceeds from this event will benefit the Black United Fund of Oregon’s programs and ACCESS Scholarship fund.

Since 1986, the Black United Fund of Oregon has served more than 750 community agencies. Services provided by the Black United Fund support the development of nonprofit organizations that offer a self-help approach to community problems.

The ACCESS Scholarship Program (Achieving College Competency and Educational Success for Students), which began in 1994, recognizes “at risk” students for their academic achievements, community service, and leadership. Since the inception of the ACCESS Program, 56 students have received scholarships. With your help, our goal this year is to award six (6) $1,500 scholarships for students to attend the college or university of their choice.  Through partnerships with several university and colleges, we will also award:

  • Two $15,000 scholarships to Willamette University –  renewable up to four years
  • Three  $12,000 scholarships to University of Portland – renewable up to four years
  • Three $1,500 scholarships to Portland State University – one time

Tickets for the event are $150 per individual.  The cost of sponsoring a table is $1,500. We would also like to encourage you to consider becoming a Scholarship Sponsor. You can become a Scholarship Sponsor by making an additional contribution of $1,000, or you can become a “Friend” of the Black United Fund of Oregon by making an additional gift of $500.

Help us celebrate Justice, Unity, and Freedom!
